Child
Support Guidelines
Determining recommended child support has been reduced to a formula
by the Maryland legislature.
The Child Support Worksheet, below,
requires the collection of financial data from both parents. The amount of child
support is determined by the joint income of the parents and the number of children to be
supported. The Child Support Schedule (which
follows the worksheet on this same page) provides the actual dollar amount of monthly
support.
The Worksheet assumes one parent has
sole physical custody of the children, and that the other, non-custodial parent will pay
the monthly child support figure to the custodial parent. The monthly term is used
for convenience; child support may be made payable at other regularly-scheduled intervals.
